I’m excited to share a new poem, the outcome of a creative audience interaction at Pulp Fiction Coffee House on Saturday night. It’s uncanny how the words of strangers pull together into the feel and intent of this poem.
The event, one of 60 Artists in 60 Spaces celebrating ARTSCO’s 60th anniversary, was well attended and lively. Poetry readings, conversation, and a beautiful atmosphere created by musician Dörte Meyer, made for a memorable evening.
Here then is the poem, aptly titled Anfänger schrumplig, Du bist schön ~ wrinkly beginner, you are beautiful.
Thanks again to ARTSCO and Westbank First Nation for the creative support and opportunity, ARTSCO President Cheryl Miller for a kind introduction, Pulp Fiction for hosting in their unique literary space, Dörte Meyer for calming presence, and everyone who came out and participated.
Last night, a group of friendly folk gathered at the Pulp Fiction Coffee House in Kelowna, for an ARTSCO 60 Artists in 60 Spaces event, featuring poet Lesley-Anne Evans and the calming atmospheric instrumental and vocals of musician Dorte Meyer.
As the evening progressed, conversations and poems and songs were shared, and the audience were asked to bravely contribute their own words to a found poem interactive exercise. Enthusiasm was strong, and Lesley-Anne gathered up an outpouring of words from the willing audience. She then moved to a quiet space and melded the found words into a new poem which she shared as the final presentation piece of the evening.
The poem will be published here this week. Stay tuned.
Thank you to Max Sloan of Pulp Fiction for your hospitality, to ARTSCO for the honour of participating in your anniversary event, and to the welcoming and enthusiastic audience.
